Meet Deacon Jaime

1964 graduate from Salesian High School in East Los Angeles. Great experience. Result: Joined the Salesian Order for 11 years in their priestly formation program which spanned a 1969 BA in Newton, New Jersey and a 1975 MDiv from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley. Super time, even though I chose to leave. God is good. Where to go? What to do? Pray. Blessed again, I meet and marry my best friend and wife, Barbara, in the year of our bicentennial. Family? Brother follows sister, both make it through the UC system in 4 years, Berkeley and Santa Barbara, the son who lives with us, makes it through UCLA’s Urban Planning Master’s program, the daughter living and working in SF, announces wedding plans for 2010. God is good!

Coming to the Catholic Community of Amador County, and another deacon from Castro Valley (what is it with that place?) is pure grace for Barbara and me. We begin to discover and appreciate not only our wonderful surroundings but also an extraordinarily warm reception and help in the proper way to live. Thank you all! We have lots to learn. We’ve moved to Pine Grove after long careers in telecommunications (me) and services to those with developmental disabilities (Barbara). We’ve worn a lot of different hats serving the Church, the last one, the deaconate, which came with a 2003 ordination. We were in class together for 5 years preparing for that blessing. Now we’re here, praying and discerning where God might need us. I have a gift working with youth. The Pine Grove Conservation Camp is five minutes from my house. Do you think God planned that? Barbara’s making her own inroads too. Isn’t God good? Yes He is!
