YOUTH GROUP UPDATE
MARCH 2008
March Youth Group Meeting
Our Youth Group met on Sunday, March 16. Salads and desserts were provided by four of our families: the McCarthys, Mullens, Stremfels and Vicari families. A baked potato "bar" was prepared by Keith Davis. Thanks to all who provided the meal! The topic centered around "Faith and Trust in God, even when times are difficult." The teens began with an Easter Egg hunt where they found eggs with treats and scripture readings. After reading the scripture they found it was obvious what the topic for the day would be. Additional activities included a short skit, a brief video and a guided meditation. The meeting ended at 2:00.
Upcoming Events
Six teens will travel with Dave and Marge Vicari on Thursday March 27 to serve lunch at "Loaves and Fishes" in Sacramento.
A "Dinner In A Bag" fundraiser will be held during the month of April. Order forms will be available in the bulletin for the weekend of March 30th and on the website immediately. The deadline for the order form to reach us is April 10. In the "Dinner Bag" will be: one whole barbecued chicken, pasta with pesto, green salad, rolls and homemade cookies. The cost will be $25.00 and all proceeds will help fund our 2009 Mission Trip. The dinners will be ready for pick-up on the morning of April 20. (See order form for more details. Download here. RETREAT WEEKEND - FEBRUARY 2008
Eighteen teens and two adults attended an overnight retreat at Christ the King Retreat Center in Citrus Heights. On Sunday, February 17, we drove to Divine Savior Catholic Church in Orangevale to attend the 9:30 Mass. We were greeted, given a tour of the facility, and after Mass were invited to Hospitality for refreshments. After Mass we went to a park and had a picnic. From the park we checked into the Retreat Center.
The focus of the retreat was Social Justice. Teens learned about the seven principles of Catholic Social Justice: Dignity of the human person, dignity of work, solidarity, options for the poor, community and common good, rights and responsibilities, and care for God's creation. There were numerous activities in which we participated, including a simulated refugee camp. The retreat ended on Monday with Mass in which all participated.
All who attended the retreat felt it was a good experience and appreciate our parish helping to pay for the costs. We look forward to another retreat in the future. Please click here for a slideshow of a few photos from the retreat.
